The wrong path

Temple statue

The temple is delightful. Serene. No tourist buses.

'What are you doing here pilgrim?'

I explain.

'No, no, no. You've come down on the wrong side of the mountain. You're a long way out of the way. This is the wrong temple. I'll give you a lift.'

I decline. I cry some for my mistake. I start walking. He drives on and waits at every intersection and points the way.

The harvested rice is drying in the fields.
The local women have knitted caps for the stone statues.
