GRYRNESE PEPPER
"TeKaskara"
A spice made from ants

One portion of crushed ants is put directly into a hot skillet with shredded basil leaves. After both are slightly blackened, the mixture is removed from heat and ground into a fine paste. Salt and dried, powdered Trell (dried, finly ground carnation flower will substitute, or a small amount of fine white pepper) are added, and then the whole is baked for 20 to 30 minutes. TeKaskara has a 'sharp, clean taste' and is a common spice in Gryrnese cooking.
