DUXSON'S CHOICE

I decided to take a subway train downtown...

I didn't know if this would lead me closer to my Portia but the day was wearing on and I still didn't know where she was. All I had was a subway token, which I was about to use, an icecream wrapper from a company that no longer exists and a set of keys. The problem was I didn't know if there was a building that belonged to those keys.

A downtown train stopped at the crowded platform at the subway station and we all got on. Not a seat to be had so I hung my paw through the nearest strap. The train rocked all the way, not the way to help me think. We stopped every few minutes and most of the train emptied out. I stayed on to the end of the line. My train stopped with a jerk and I got off.

I found the stairs that led to the street at Twelfth Avenue. It was late afternoon, cold and trying hard to rain. This kind of weather does nothing for my coat or my hat for that matter. I walked a little way down the street. I could hear the tug boat whistles on the river, but I couldn't see any sign of a factory. I was about to give up and call the police when I looked up. There it was, right in front of me...Millie's Icecream Factory! I had to take a closer look
