Milk Bar

A jackaroo comes riding up to the swinging doors of the milk bar. He deftly dismounts his horse and comes sidling in. He thumps his fist on the long wooden bar and orders a pot of beer. A hush passes through the room. The piano player stops playing.

A tough looking jillaroo pushes back her bush hat, then deliberately makes her way up to the side of the stranger. "We don't serve that cissy stuff here, mate. You better be on your way."

I'm sure the Australian Dairy Association would love for you to have these images in mind when you think of a milk bar. However, a milk bar is a combination mom and pop store and sandwich shop. Most suburbs usually have at least one. Seven Elevens and Circle K stores haven't managed to push them out yet.
