I remember a photograph of all of us children together with our father. We all seemed quite comfortable with each other within the white frame of that Polaroid. Probably because it was many years later that I discovered there were two mothers that made up our family tree. Quite possibly that was when the differences made sense or, perhaps, that was when the differences began.
