Geek Day Out 2000
Notes & Bolts 03 May 2000
|
First a group of us converged for a lovely dinner at an authentic French
creperie. The group at this juncture included Andrew, Katherine, Kirsty, Nicole,
and Grant. This was followed by a brainstorming session. Below are the notes
from this session.
- Have the event at Scienceworks.
Kirsty (our Lego Mindstorm expert) can help organise a roborally, perhaps in
the Scienceworks planetarium.
Olaf (not at the meeting) may be interested in playing his laser harp at the
party.
We may even have access to a Software Video Instrument (SVI) with Kirsty's
help.
Lego might be approached for sponsorship.
We will try to get most of the expense covered by sponsors, but will
probably still need something of a cover charge.
Have a laser light show in the planetarium
Software demo competition of some sort.
Multi-player gaming.
Compaq as a sponsor? (Nicole will look into)
Antique computer gear show.
Combine with a party in Tokyo (Andrew can look into).
Katherine to provide her exceptionally geeky music for the party.
Perhaps approach or even highlight some online communities such as the
Furries.
We should have a proper espresso machine at the party as well as plenty of
cola.
We should have a Linux demo group. Anyone else?
We will have a video room showing the likes of Holy Grail, Buckaroo
Banzai, Blues Brothers, Japanime, and Tron.
Must have T-shirts and name tags (maybe pocket protectors?).
Wearable computer fashion show, maybe modelled by Circus Oz.
Maybe invite Adam Spencer.
Grant has an arcade game machine that we could use. Could we get others?
Start mailing lists for organisers and participants.
Maybe have people print out on-line invites and insert their names.
Next meeting Wednesday 17 May 7pm.
