comic strip

Bipartisanship
Originally published 31 December 2000

Usually, Avery's interaction with his little brother Timulty is a vehicle for repentance--I was not always nice to my own much-better-adjusted little brother, growing up. Here, though, there's a definite whiff of the political. On the final day of 2000, with the presidential election newly "settled," people who were happy with the outcome were loudly calling for "bipartisanship" so things would be as smooth and easy as possible for the new Republican president.

Considering this was largely coming from people who'd thoroughly roasted the previous (Democratic) guy, I speculated in this strip (in a thinly veiled way) that "bipartisanship" was "do whatever we want, in the name of goodwill, and don't expect us to return the favor."

I'm going to take a moment and pat myself on the back for being prescient.
