This storyline, from August 2000, drew more support and more protest than anything else I had posted up to that point.

The plot, of cource, centered around Llewellyn counterpicketing an anti-gay rights rally, by pointing out passages from Leviticus (the most often cited book of the Bible, in homophobic circles) which the protesters themselves were violating. I thought this was an effective technique; really, there's not a one of us who doesn't break the prohibitions of Leviticus on a regular basis (I'm assuming not a lot of my readers are Amish).

Of course, some people wrote to me saying I was wrong. One guy insisted I had "bought into the gay-rights propaganda" and was "better than this," as if the granting of equal rights to all Americans were some sort of con. And as if he could automatically assume I was straight and Christian.

I insist I am no better. In fact, I think this was probably Ozy and Millie's finest hour.
