The Messiah

One major reason I never rebelled that much until rather late in my youth--if I adopted an odd idea or garment or what have you, my mother's natural response wasn't to get angry; it was to laugh. Parents take note: this is the world's best deterrent. It sucks all the fun out of rebelling.

Millie's theory about her own divinity is borrowed from my college friend Whitney, who wins the prize for best childhood story. Whitney, if you're reading this, thanks and I'm sorry for stealing your bit.
