comic strip

Millie gets an idea.
Originally published 14 May 1999

This storyline was, at the time it ran in 1999, the pinnacle of storytelling in Ozy and Millie. Or at least so I felt at the time. And when Plan Nine Publishing first agreed to publish my stuff, this is the plotline that Plan Nine honcho Dave Allen cited.

In it, Millie sues her school for tolerating abuse. Early Ozy and Millie dealt with this topic a lot: the way school administrations tolerate bullying because it's easier and keeps "weird" kids in line.

The strip hasn't dealt with the subject as much since, only because that point feels made. I still revisit it from time to time, though, because it's something I feel strongly about. Let's face it, it does society no good to send kids with a predisposition toward intimidation the message that they're right.

Maybe, just maybe, I have some prior experience with this matter.
