John Lennon 1940-1980
Originally published 10 December 2000

I'm a day late, but...Monday was the 23rd anniversary of the day John Lennon was shot.

I've always been a really big Beatles fan, and John was always my favorite. I think it's something to do with the fact that the first album cover I saw was "Let It Be," and at the time I loved glasses and hated facial hair.

I was three years old when John died, and I don't remember it. But the footage of mourners in Central Park, mourning a man who had just died in an act of senseless violence by singing his song that proclaimed that all you need is love...well, it's still one of the saddest and most poignant scenes I've ever seen.
