Do endings like this seem a little bit artificial? Why do I find it comforting that Millie, at least outwardly, learned nothing from this experience? And why do I derive such amusement from the construction "(food item) of death"?

(That last one, actually, is a bit of a tribute to Daniel Pinkwater's "The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death.")
