"LyX is a graphical document editor that serves as a front end to TeX
and various TeX extensions (LaTeX, XeTeX, etc.). In that sense, LyX
serves as a bridge between the high-precision world of TeX typesetting
and the easier-to-use WYSIWYG world of word processors."

I've mentioned LyX before, but the release of the latest version is a
good time to mention it again - not just for academic papers: if you
need beautifully typeset documents LyX is worth investigating.
