'When Roman Nedielka moved to Indonesia for work he would spend hours stuck in
traffic every day, so he decided to join the hordes of motorcycle riders
weaving through Jakarta's gridlock.

"After one year in Indonesia, I said I will try to ride a motorbike, because it
seems that you can [go] faster cruising through the traffic," he told ABC
Radio Sydney
.

"By sheer luck, I managed to get an electric motorbike."

Mr Nedielka has embarked on a 38,000-kilometre solo journey around the world to
prove the potential of the technology.

The Slovakian national has since powered through South-East Asia's forests in
the wet season, vast empty stretches of Kazakhstan's deserts and endured the
freezing temperatures of the United States in winter.

The 47-year-old is now set to ride from Sydney to Darwin via Adelaide.

"People have these old perceptions of … it's very difficult to charge and what
is the range and is it reliable?" Mr Nedielka said.

"I've been riding for five months and I have never run out of battery.

"If you can ride an electric bike around the world, don't worry [about] riding
it in your city or going for a weekend ride with your friends."'
