The Llewellyn Hair Curse
Originally published 21 June 2001

By this time, I'd done the Ozy-shaving gag a few times. And I suppose I'm a perfectionist; I was still trying to find ways to make it more entertaining. Plus, I felt (probably unnecessarily, in hindsight) that the gag had happened enough times that it needed explaining.

So with this storyline, I gave it a backstory, involving a Llewellyn ancestor who had angered a gypsy and gotten an annual baldness curse placed on the clan Llewellyn, the joke being that Ozy is the first Llewellyn in history for whom this would be a problem.

I suppose now, looking back, I see it as pretty unnecessary to explain or justify drawing whatever I want. Still, it's no flimsier than any of the other excuses I've used over the years to have Llewellyn tell fairly pointless family stories that may or may not be true. (This one probably isn't, but I don't know for sure. Only Llewellyn does.)
